This is a choral group which sings mainly symphonic and a-cappella classical works but as well projects involving pop, jazz und world music are sung. The standard is a little easier than in the Philharmonic Choir. The singers are between 18 and 30 years of age.
At the end of June 2021, Gustav Mahler’s 2nd Symphony will be performed in the Musikverein. In July 2022, concerts with demanding 8-part a-cappella pop arrangements will be sung in open air concerts in the main courtyard of the Vienna University. A new composition “An Austrian Christmas” for large orchestra, distant orchestra and three choirs by Vijay Upadhyaya, which is based on traditional Austrian Christmas carols, will be premiered on December 12th at the Musikverein. We are also planning two concerts in April 2022 at the Musikverein with the music of John Williams from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and much more!
In autumn 2020 seven concerts of the Mozart Requiem were sung in St. Stephen’s Cathedral and Gustav Mahler’s 2nd Symphony was performed at the Vienna Musikverein. Other past projects have been “The Messiah” by Georg Friedrich Handel, “The World of Opera” with choirs by Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi and P.I Tchaikovsky as well as concerts with a-cappella works from pop and film hits and L. v. Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the Vienna Musikverein.
