Orchestra
We are a community with two orchestras and eight choirs that complement each other musically. With us you can sing a cappella, play symphonies and also perform large oratorios. All ensembles usually perform with their own groups. Occasionally there are big concerts where several groups perform together. In June 2023, Carmina Burana will be performed as a major event in the Konzerthaus. For 2024 we are planning Gustav Mahler’s 8th Symphony and Howard Shore’s “The Lord of the Rings Symphony”.
Due to our large community, we are able to organize regular concerts in concert halls such as the Musikverein, the Konzerthaus or St. Stephen’s Cathedral and invite internationally known artists (such as Dobet Gnahore in May 2022). And we look forward to you joining us from now on!
We rehearse once a week. In addition there are one or two weekend retreats each semester. In order to ensure good musical quality, it is necessary that you attend at least 70% of the rehearsals and practise the works individually. The dates of all rehearsals are given at the beginning of the semester. You do not have to study at the Vienna University to take part in the orchestra.
Auditions for the Symphonic Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra will take place in January 2023.

Many new students, international exchange students and people new to Vienna come to our orchestras and have few contacts outside of their own university department. To make it easier for you to join our community, we are organizing a welcome concert with a “Speed Friending” event in mid-October. After the concert there will be dancing and partying! It is very important for us to get to know you guys!
