Symphonic Choir

This is an advanced choral group which sings mainly symphonic and a-cappella classical works as well projects involving pop, jazz und world music. Singers in this choir have musical experience and certain sight reading skills, but the level is slightly easier than in the Philharmonic Choir. This choir sings two classical, and one pop programme in each academic year.

On December 18th, 8-part Christmas carol arrangements and motets by Spohr and Bruckner will be sung in the Wiener Musikverein. Gustav Mahler's 8th symphony will be performed on May 19th and 20th, 2024 at the Konzerthaus, and a cappella pop works will be sung in June.

In March 2023 arrangements from “Cats” were sung in the concert series “Musicals and More”. and in June Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" was performed in the Wiener Musikverein. In December 2022, the choir sang the “Schicksalslied” and motets by Johannes Brahms. In May 2022 World Music from Africa at the gala concert "Concert du Continets" was sung. Other projects included the music of John Williams from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, the Mozart Requiem and the rarely sung Mass in E minor by Anton Bruckner.

For the audition, a sight reading test and a voice check are required and there is an age limit of 45 years. We are primarily looking for tenors and sopranos, but all voices are welcome.
