Singing Generations

Are you over 75 years and an enthusiastic female singer? You finally have time to pursue your musical interests and want to join a choir (again)? Starting in September, we offer this choir where vocal techniques and singing will be practiced without any obligations to perform. Here, singing is seen as a form of therapy to enhance physical and psychological balance. Hence, this choir has easier and voluntary performances.

It is scientifically proven that people who sing release higher levels of endorphins (happiness hormones) and benefit from better coordination of the right and left sides of the brain. Even the heart beat can be regulated through singing. All of these factors contribute to a more positive life and improve productivity.

Around 7,000 seniors are enrolled at the University of Vienna – that is where the idea of this group started. However, everybody is welcome to join. In this group you can enjoy singing in a relaxed atmosphere and friendly community. The various singing exercises focus on age-specific topics such as breathing-techniques, pelvic floor exercises and stretching. Voluntary concerts with shorter and easier repertoire are sung by this choir although the main emphasis is on pedagogical work with mature voices.

In this choir a mixed repertoire of classical pieces and folk songs are sung in a relaxed atmosphere without concert activity
In the past years choir trips to the Attersee, southern Styria and Tuscany were made.
